Not condoning thievery in any way, shape or form, but who on earth leaves valuable or sensitive items in their car overnight?

probably didn't and @Accy is an unwitting stooge in an insurance scam....

Yes, I think she might've left the items on display and even if she hadn't, they were still in the car and there to be stolen if someone broke in. I didn't ask her if she'd left the items on display, or if she'd locked the car, but something tells me she'd done the former and not done the latter. 🤔

The list of stolen items she reeled off to our man Accy seems quite unlikely if they weren't there to be stolen in the first place.
Well if it was a scam, which I doubt, she's taking a risk of losing a very good, hard studied for job, as you can see below. I think she innocently made a daft mistake in either leaving items on display or leaving her car unlocked, or maybe even both.🤔

Only an attempted stealing of my Austin Maestro (yes, someone actually tried to steal it  )
Early 90s when car theft and joy riding was epidemic. Found it about 6 ft from where it should be, stuck in the middle of the road.
Door and ignition barrel repairs needed.
Haven't heard of a car being stolen for years round here...normal cars of course, not the expensive stuff that seems the target nowadays

that's hardly stolen, more like "moved slightly & damaged"

I once found my Chevette 6ft from where I parked it, now on top of a flattened fence. Damn dodgy handbrake....

About two summers ago two blokes did scores of cars around here. Going street to street and just rifling through cars and gloveboxes. People with bags in the car found them strewn over street corners. No cars were nicked but any petty cash you had was gone.

A day or two later I'm walking the dog at night and going past lots of cars with rucksacks and gym bags sitting on passenger seats of cars.
Some people have very short memories.

Had my first car stolen. Mark 2 Escort that was about 10 years old. Only had it 18 months. Disappeared off the driveway early one evening. Never seen again.

Similar story for my first car.
It was a Mark II Cortina, about 10 years old. It was a bugger to start and keep running until it was warmed up. One weekend I drove home from the east end of London where I was at college to North Herts and spend the weekend adjusting the carburettor and the timing. I went back to London on Sunday evening, the car started and ran perfectly, I was very pleased with myself. On Monday morning I drove a few mates to college. At morning break one of them asked me where I had parked. I didn't understand why he was asking, he was in the car when I parked. He explained that the car wasn't there any more.
I never saw it again. I heard from the police months later that it had been found a few miles away but was wrecked.
If I hadn't spent the weekend working on it then the people who stole it wouldn't have got further than the end of the road.

Around 1985 I had my 10-year-old Ford Escort stolen. I spotted it a few streets away from me and 'stole' it back. The boot was crammed full of booze and porn mags.

I had a mate who had a Mk III Cortina stolen. The police found it a few days later. It now had a radio fitted that wasn't there when it was nicked.

Our Ford Sierra estate, with our tow bar, stolen from outside our home in 1990. It was used to tow away my work colleagues speedboat several miles away. Sierra recovered, minus radio, and repaired properly. I noticed when recovering it the fuel tank was half full with petrol it was just on flashing yellow light evening before it was stolen.

In 1993 I parked my Dads Fiesta 950cc (T reg) in the car park of a pub I was about to manage for 2 weeks whilst the owners went on holiday In Billinge (Wigan)
I had 2 weeks worth of clothes and my golf glubs in the car.
At the end of the first day( pub closed) I decided to go an bring all my items into the pub an go to bed.
No car in the car park, ahh B*ll*cks…….
police found the car 5 miles away, all contents missing, flat tyre and the gearbox hanging down..
Completely pointless, it was a 950cc car 😡😡😡

Back when I was in my early 20's and myself and my mates all drove MK1 Escorts it was not uncommon to find out that your car had been moved around the carpark by one of your mates as all keys fitted in most locks of the day with a bit of jiggling.

I can remember coming out of a night club one night and my car wasn't where I left it but instead one of my mates car was so I drove that to a different parking place only to Spot my car in the process.

We used to have some fun with cars
