I liked the story, Boris, but is it wrong to admit I have no idea what an eighth of black is?

Ask a Moroccan.

My ex husband had a C19 ceremonial sword in his suitcase that he bought in an antique shop in Prague. I kept well out of his way at customs as he didn't want to pay tax on it. It cost around £400 or so in that shop. Nice example of ceremonial sword though, the ex had about a dozen or so of varying styles. He also brought back a lot of books on that trip and some proper Absinthe. When coming back from the USA he brought back, through the green channel, yet another ceremonial sword and a load of American 'Scotch'. Vile stuff.

When we came back from Australia we had drovers coats that we wore home. It was 40 degrees in the NT and -8 & windy in Heathrow. We needed those coats. In fact it never crossed our mind to declare them until I just read the post from @fossyant. Oops.

Something I didn't smuggle: In 1994, I'd been given a pistol by someone in the Balkans in gratitude for a perceived kindness. The usual thing was a jar of honey or some smoked meat, but this man gave me a pistol.

I'd been away working when The time came to head back to the UK, so a colleague had packed my bag for me. I travelled down to Split to catch a flight back to Brize (civilian, but UK PLC are kind like that) and moments before being taken to the airport I looked in the side pocket of my luggage and found the pistol.

I left it on top of a filing cabinet in the office. Nobody seemed to think it odd that I'd found it in my luggage, which was odd in itself.

At the airport, I was given a good luggage search by Croatian customs, who knifed open several paintings in brown paper, looking for icons. No pistol, though.

I have no idea what became of it and still don't really know why I was given it. I'm jolly glad I went through my luggage before leaving though...

Here for rides.
Yes. And only in a 'good cause' under the euphemism of 'hand carrying' goods into developing countries. But I don't do it any more. Not since the entertaining conversation with the customs men.

Not exactly smuggled, but have been treated like a pro smuggler, went on a two day overnight business trip to Belgium having overnighted with the main supplier and over indulged tasting the Belgian draught beers I was amazed at how well I felt in the morning so called up someone who had been asking for meeting from Holland and met them in a Hotel on the wrong side of the Dutch border.

Had the meeting, threw the pet food & treat samples in the boot filled up on fuel to get me home, stuffed the receipt into my wallet. Got pulled over at Eurotunnel asked the normal question where have been etc., just told them stayed overnight with supplier in Belgium didn't occur to me to mention the Hotel meeting. Went through my wallet and voila a Dutch petrol receipt, man that sent them in to overdrive, over came the dog inside the car no problem it then leapt in the boot and went berserk pawing the right hand side.

I shoot myself I had not long had the car allsorts was going through my mind, then over came another crew and started dismantling the boot taking wheels off seeing how hard to get off the bumper. Was there for about two hours. I kept telling them that he dog was after the Dutch treats ^_^ They didn't think it was funny. Thing is I always look as guilty just can't help it

Kind of the opposite of smuggling really. I didnt have any deodorant for the holiday so my mum bought me some at the airport shops just before security. I put it in my hand luggage as that was the only place for it.
So when my bag got to security, they took my bag to one side, opened it, and said "Whats this?" I replied "Deodorant" The woman then said "Sorry, you cannot take aerosols onto the flight". And then promptly threw it into the bin.
I was pretty upset by it (I was a lot younger) but my mum bought me another one in the other country.

I should have clocked really that it wasnt allowed but it was a good quality spray which cost a few pennies so it just slipped my mind.
