I just came down a hill at 30 mph on my bike only to be greeted by a seemingly fat pigeon taking flight.

It hit my face, just between my glasses and my helmet. It was such a force it almost knocked me out.

I carried on for a bit until I realised there was blood. I'm back at base and I just have a slight cut and other than all is good.

As for the pigeon, I think it will be a meal for the Red Kites i'm afraid.

Ouch.

ouch it could've been worse I am glad all seems ok, if you experience any dizzy spells etc or think you may of got a concussion at all make sure you speak to your GP.

I hit a pigeon a while ago, however, I was travelling in excess of 100mph more than the OP whilst riding my motorbike.

I was wearing full leathers etc and it still felt like I'd been shot

Needless to say the winged rat did not survive !!

Was the pigeon wearing a helmet?

Ouch. Glad the OP is relatively unscathed.

Had a glancing blow from a pigeon taking off before, but not enough to destabilize me. It's the kamikaze squirrels that I usually have to watch out for, and they always seem to go for me when on a fast downhill. Have had two under my back wheel to date - one definitely didn't get up again, but the other seemed to bounce well and scuttled off apparently ok - not nice but not a lot you can do about it when they dart out from the roadside and you're going 25mph+

Many years ago, I was riding my 750 Kawasaki past Percy Thrower's garden centre near Shrewsbury. I was doing about 70 mph when I suddenly became aware of a grey object coming at me from the right, at speed, at an angle of approximately 15° from straight ahead. Before I could react, the pigeon hit me square in the face. I was wearing a full face helmet. The impact was like being hit in the face by a sledgehammer. My missus was following on her Honda 400/4 and said that my head went back in an explosion of feathers, then forwards as I nutted the petrol tank. Apparently, I braked hard down to about 5 mph and fell off onto the grass verge on the left. I don't remember doing this, as presumably I was out cold for a few seconds.
I was lucky. There was no real damage to the bike and the only damage I suffered was severe facial bruising. I can remember the feeling of the impact today; I shudder every time I think about it.
The helmet was a Kangol Falcon.
