head in a spin over headset

hi folks wonder if anyone could help,just lately i have heard a clicking noise which seems to be coming from the headset,and there is a bit of play when the front brake is on so am thinking its about time i replaced it.my bike is a carrea subway 2 hybrid 2010.few questions do i have to replace it with the exact one that is on the bike now? or can i install a different one?,also is this a job for the bike shop or could it be done without taking it in?

any advice would be much appreciated

It probably just needs adjusting, not replacing. But, get it done asap or you'll damage it.

yeah thanks i went onto the net and i seem to have solved the problem i just presumed it was knackered and needed replacing so happy days

My headset on my commuter is a bit rough after 2 winters and it had a new set of bearing prior to that so i am hoping a good grease is all they need.
