Any recomendations for a (weight), bright, rain proof headlight... up to around £40.

For commuting in pretty well lit roads

Kinda like the type with a seperate battery compartment to help balance the whole thing up.

thanks all

I have a Varta 1 watt:

I think it's great for the money (was £18 when I got it) as it's powerful (although not as good as a Joystick etc. strapped to your lid), light, compact and versatile. It has full and half power modes, plus a flashing mode. It also has clear and red diffusers that flip in front of the lens.

Can't comment on the rainproofness, but it seems well made.

My only gripe is that the switch is on the underside of the unit, so once in place it can be difficult to change modes, especially with gloves on.

Alternatively, the Alpkit Gamma gets good reviews.
