Brill for the price - no problems with them at all, on the road - cycle path

must be noise cancelling or must just be good headphones that block the outside world?

I just (this week) bought these because I needed portable headphones to take on the train; if non-portable I've had great experiences with Koss phones but seem less common in the UK. (Again not noise cancelling). The ones I've just bought will be taken for their first train trip tomorrow and we'll see how they fare....

What is the noise cancelling for? Where will you be using them?

If you do mean "noise cancelling", the best I've found without paying silly money, although they are just under £300, are the Bose QuietComfort 3.

If you are looking for ear canal buds, I've about a million different sets and settled on a set of Bose In-Ear thingies. £80-odd and I've found them stable and comfortable as well as lasting several years of commuting.

A bit cheaper, at around £7 a pair, I quite like the Creative EP-630s, although I couldn't get them to stay in my ears, I use these in bed at night.

I wouldn't bother with noise cancelling headphones. The last time i flew I bought some headphones in the airport and I tried some noise cancelling ones. The demo track featured a recording of typical background noise, which was then faded out to demonstrate how the headphones would have worked if they actually, er, worked. Which they didn't, as I could still hear the actual background noise. I bought some £25 Sennheisers and they're absolutely fine.

I agree re noise cancelling. The best ones are hefty and to be honest they make my head sweat as they clamp round the ears.

I have a pair of JVC HA-FX66 in ear ones which by the nature of the rubber block the ears well. I stick on some quiet music on long flights and they work a treat. They also give 10x bet

I've got some in ear Shure Se110 which are noise cancelling. Very good earphones and nice clear sounds.

I think its because they fit into your properly that makes them so good.

I've had a pair of Shure e2c canal-phones for about 5 years and they're fantastic for blocking off the sound outside. Not only that, but the sound quality is stunning.

Don't think they make them any more, but there's a new range which has an equivalent model.

For someone who flies a lot, that's a small percentage of the price of one ticket.

They're also the only set posted so far which are actually noise cancelling. I've also got a pair of Creative HN-700s. The Bose are better but the Creatives are around 10% of the price.

I discovered Goldring GX200 in the ear jobs I use them on my Mp3 player when Mrs BG needs blocking out. The bit that goes in your ear expands and blocks out ALL sound ( they're called Comply Canal Tips. Really comfortable. The earpice thingies come in 3 sizes to accomodate all ear sizes. They're the only ones of this style that I've ever managed to keep in my ear. Dont use them on the bike though cos it blocks ot all external sounds. They were reviewed by those tw...ts on the Gadget Show and won hands down. About £18 a couple of years ago when I bought them
