It may surprise some of the organisations that subscribe to these Met Office alerts that we may possibly experience hot weather in the summer, and a spot of rain in the transitional seasons of Spring and Autumn. Do you really need the Met Orifice to tell you that? Makes you wonder how we survived in the dark gloom of pre-history in the 1990's.

Have you actually bothered to look at what the levels mean before coming out with the sarcasm?

I can see the headline now..."Britain Braces Itself for Siberian Blast. Eastern European Migrants Deny Any Involvement"

Duh, yeah (sone sarcasm just for you). We get them in my line of work too.

But you know what - it's never a surprise? Cold weather in the winter, a heat wave in the summer. I've yet to see one that actually gives us advance warning of something we couldn't have figured for ourselves.

It's like the recent flood alerts and warnings. From the number of drivers we'd already rescued, the incessant heavy rain and from the way the Westshire river was lapping at the edges of the banks had us kind of guessing bad times were on their way.

The day they tell us something that a well prepared organisation couldn't foresee for themselves, and with sufficient notice for them to be useful, then I might get excited.

Levels? Perhaps some sarcasm is justified, the local forecast for the next three days is fair, with no temperatures below zero and longer term forecasts are notoriously unreliable..

I remember leaving my house one morning thinking "Its frosty, I'll have to take extra care on the corners this morning."

By the time I had reached my first corner I had forgotten this already, and was taking it slightly faster than usual. I then remembered it again as I carefully picked myself and my bike off the floor.

D'oh!
