i have a Garmin 520 with the sensors and heart rate strap. I am not hugely fussed about the strap being around my chest as find it annoying and can’t forget about it being there. Therefore, I avoid using it.

Does anyone know whether I could use an Apple or Garmin Watch, with heart rate measurement built in, then link that to the Garmin 520 whilst riding?

I quite like the idea of having my heart rate measured through the day, and also targeting myself for steps, etc.

My Fitbit charge 2 HR syncs with strava (strava data imported into Fitbit app)

Measures steps and HR too. And tells the time and date which is very useful ;)

Just be aware that HR measurement on these devices isn’t known to be especially accurate. All depends why you want to measure.

I want to link to my Garmin ideally, then sync the combined data to Strava afterwards. I think it’s not going to work how I want @vickster. Interested about the accuracy issue that you mention though?

Have fancied an Apple Watch for ages tbh @Heltor Chasca, and had pre-ordered the 3G version for my 40th before cancelling it. Still keen if it does what I would like.

There was a guy in work that started the same day as me, in 2001, who made the mistake of saying that he liked Steps. 16 years later and we still drop it into conversation @Cuchilo.

Buy an Apple Watch if that’s what you want?
John Lewis will give you an extended warranty
Cheers for the heads up on JL.

Been looking into unreliable wrist based options and found the Scosche Rhythm+ forearm HRM. Not the cheapest, but the reviews are very good.

My main reason for the he HR reading is that I appear to have a very high heart rate. I can comfortable go for a blast for an hour and average 184bpm, with a max of about 205. Clearly not the usual heart rate for a 40 year old!

Can you make a different strap & wear it on your wrist? No idea if it will read but worth a try before being silly & even considering an Apple product

I am properly invested in the Apple range. Their products work very well for my needs and I like the design too.

I don’t buy stuff for the sake of it though, hence not having bought a watch so far. I get it hat some people aren’t fans and that’s cool too.

Looking around online, it would appear that the Scosche Rhythm+ could well be what I need. Significantly cheaper than any Watch too.

Are you thinking Series 3? How/why/what is the cellular option for/about?
Would be the series 3 with cellular, yes.

My view on the cellular element is that I could leave my iPhone at home and just have the watch for keeping in touch with people and for Music, etc. I am sure that there are other Apps that I would no doubt use too.

Not totally sold on a Watch though, else would have had it in October. Presently I am 60 : 40 against a purchase tbh.
