It's a boring afternoon here waiting for the courier to come and listening to the rain falling. So I started wondering how much water was falling out of the sky. Just considering Wales and assuming 20mm of rainfall that equates to about 400 million tonnes of water! (I hope I've got the sums right).

I just thought I'd share that!

Seems like nearly that much has fallen on my house today. If it wasn't for the roof leak I don't think it could have held the weight.

Wales = 20000 sq km

20mm of rain = 0.00002 km

volume = 0.4 cubic kilometres

1 cubic kilometre weighs 10^9 tonnes

0.4 cu. km weighs 4^8 tonnes

(I hope)

Wtf... I thought this was about water whose molecules contained deuterium instead of regular hydrogen.

And why does it come down on us? There is no gravity, the earth sucks.

I was hoping for a 'Heroes of Telemark' thread here:sad: Then I'd have been able to bore you all with my photos of the Norsk Hydro plant that I took when I was in Norway a few years ago;)
