Oh, or he could have been referring to The Buttress, which, believe it or not, forms part of the Pennine Cycleway!

I don't remember that being included in the pre-walk itinerary, another hill you sneaked into a flat-ish route

You'd have to watch you didn't shoot out in front of a car at the bottom!

Just short of Hebden Bridge, there's the road from Luddenden Foot, that ascends (& hairpins) to join the road to Wainstlls, that's a bit of a bugger too!!!
It is! Stocks Lane - I took a forum ride up there a few years back ... as in - "Just ride up there, I'll see you at the top"!

And its two way traffic on Stocks Lane! The S-bend near the top just beyond what used to be "The Highwayman", "kills" most of those that don't know its there.

Fun. You might even see some that have come over from America to have a bit of fun!

Got to the top more than once.

I'll have to have a go one day!

I know that I could cope with most of the Buttress climb, but that first 30% bit just does my head in! Every time I walk up it, I think how hard it would be to try and ride up it.
Does it still have the treads in it, rows of raised cobblestones about 4 feet apart?

At the top of the steep bottom section there is one very significant one so you'd not only have to have enough strength to get up that slope, you'd also have to be able to 'muscle' your way over the obstacle, which could otherwise easily bring you to a dead stop or knock your front wheel round and have you off the bike.
