I spent a day there last week and have fallen in love  I was forewarned about the amount of quirky inhabitants and boy was that an understatement... but they, combined with the best ever chocolate caramel shortcake IN THE WORLD and a man in a green bodysuit talking to a tree have just about made my year!

That is one place I am definitely going back to^_^

Try a nighttime visit & see if you stil feel the same way? "Quirky" is a new one on me for describing the people who live there. I've heard other, local words used, but as @ColinJ lives there, he's better placed to advise on the natives.
Maybe it was Colin talking to the trees. You can get more sense out of them, the trees, at times.

Yes a grand place it is, I used to work with a Southerner who moved up to Heptonstall,(up t'ill from Hebden Bridge) he thought he had died and gone to heaven, he wanted to become a Yorkshire man (no chance) ^_^

Maybe it was that DV Tree that we keep hearing him going on about?
Don't be a clot!

Oh, BTW, have I ever mentioned ...

No, never mind!

I used to visit Hebden Bridge quite often to see Friends. I was not really aware of it's reputation back then, I just thought it quaint.

@potsy ..By calling the inhabitants quirky I was being tactful.. downright odd covered most of them, but the group in the park opposite the canal were,,, well.. 'nuff said there I think
@ColinJ , I looked for you but you hid well:thumbsup: The green man had a red nose on when I saw him, talking to the tree near the bridge and playing peek-a-boo with the ducks. A woman told me he usually just sat in a heap and was quiet, but one day a week he went mental.. guess that was the day he met his dealer then:popcorn:
I love the place, I really do. Very "League of Gentlemen" and full of friendly, if very strange, folks. And as for the people who live on the canal boats in that little community...... that's fab  Love It!!!!!!!!!

NT and I like a trip to Hebden Bridge now and then. NT's preferred garage for servicing and MOT is there, so we can leave the car there and walk into town along the canal, which is lovely.

Last time we were there we found a nice little Art Deco wall light in a charity to go in our new bathroom, and then, in a skip, a tile with a gothic arch pattern which will nicely echo the arched window in the bedroom.
