One dead in the helicopter and one dead on the ground, very sad.
11 others in hospital.

Shocking news and terribly sad for the poor folk that have died. It could have been worse, thank goodness it wasn't. Its extraordinary how news gets reported now isn't it? There's mobile phone footage all over the BBC news of fire and mayhem, motorcycles on the ground, people running about, chaos all being reported by everyday folk who were just going about their business. Just fifteen years ago it wasn't possible to get instant news like this.

I hope the injured recover soon, its a shocking bit of news.

Not good. Incidents like this bring into sharp focus what a tenuous grasp we all have on life, non of us know what's round the corner.

There's a mobile phone clip being played on the BBC of a car driving towards a wall of flame and then, predictably, having to reverse. What on earth was the driver thinking?

Have you not passed your driving test? Are you unaware of the inbuilt sense of invulnerability that is required before you do? At least when you ride a bicycle/motorbike you expect things to land on your head, hence the helmets.

You were lucky! Glad you missed it.
It's ok. I was wearing a helmet so I would have been fine.

But on a serious note it was pretty manic seeing it 15 mins after it happened. As I was coming up Wandsworth Road to Vauxhall I could see up ahead loads of blue lights and the traffic being diverted away. I got off my bike and walked along the pavement as far as I could go to the railway bridge where the tape stretched right accross the road. The fire was being put out but there was loads of smoke and I could smell the aviation fuel. My normal commute takes me under the bridge and through the area of raod where the coptor came down. I didn't know what had happened at this point and presumed it was a massive fire in the building next to the road. So i just went up the side street to get to South Lambeth Road which takes me to Vauxhall Junction. It was then as i rode up slowly with the diverted traffic that I noticed the Road in front , Nine Elms Lane, had also been taped off and the road below was covered with mangled wreckage from the crane. I looked up and saw the crane hanging off the 30-40 story building. All the construction workers (about 2-300 of them) were gathered in the street (blocking the designated cycle path, lol) and I was nonplussed at what I was seeing. I got over Vauxhall Bridge and at the traffic lights another bike rider told me what exactly had happened. So a little bit of drama on the way in to work!
