Hello! Advise needed please!

Hi all. I'm new to cycling as in, bought a bike last week, not ridden one since i was about 12 and am 32 now! Got the bike for my 4 year old daughter who since going on the childminders tagalong has not shut up about it so i got one of them too n she loves it! Me my daughter and my girlfriend are doing the manchester cycle on monday and are worried about getting on the train with the bikes. We've heard you can only fit 2 bikes on each train. Does anyone know if its possible to cycle from Littleborough to Manchester down the canal, as we would prefer to do this. Any web sites with maps/directions would be helpful i can't seem to find one!

yeah you can cycle all the way to manchester,
you have to leave the canal briefly near to Sandbrook park and rejoin in a hundred yards or so,
there are some signs to guide you,It eventually brings you out near the Velodrome
which is near the start I think.
They're resurfacing part of the towpath at the moment near to
Victoria Avenue all the way to Failsworth,it's large gravel not pleasant for cycling on,
If your on mountain bikes you'll be ok on this section
Otherwise the surface is not too bad,the odd muddy section
