Good day everyone! First post here...

Just an introductory post to get things started!

I came across this website when trying to do a little bit of research about an old Shorter which I bought from a junk stall circa 1988. The frame I have was built using what I believe are known as Italian Fastback / Shot-In rear stays at the seat-post lug and it was through a search which brought up a photograph of one member's bike that I knew that theirs featured exactly the same lugwork as does mine.

Is it expected to say a little bit about oneself? If so...

I joined the local branch (Falkirk, Stirlingshire) of the C.T.C aged about 12. A couple of years earlier I had been given a Raleigh 'Sportsman' 10-speed bike in metallic royal blue as a Christmas present and discovered a love of cycling around the countryside close to my home and it so happened that a friend of my father's from work was one of the officers in the CTC so it all started from there.
After going through a couple of old bikes (an early 'The Scot' and an early '60s Claud Butler) I spent (in two senses of the word quite literally) from Xmas 1976 to November 1977 building up a '76 Holdsworth Professional / Record Strada bike which I still own. I also have questions to ask about this bike...

Anyhow; that's eassily enough for now. Looking forward to discussing a few matters with anyone who might be able to offer some information.

Regards,

Philip (pippy).

Oooh! Questions! We loves questions, we do?
Ha!Ha!

I'm getting strong 'Gollum' vibes for some strange reason...

There is a thread over in the Vintage and Classic sub-forum concerning the serial number location on a Shorter frame which was started yesterday. "Fill Yer Boots!" as the saying has it...

Lord Of The Chainrings? Yes, we likes that we do!...
Anyway, hello from a rather windy (and grey) Scotland!

Thank you, Mad Doug, and I think you should perhaps register 'Lord of the Chainrings' officially as the title of your autobiography ASAP as, to be honest, it is pretty damn neat!

Having lived in Falkirk until the age of twenty-one the words "rather windy and grey" strike a fairly resonant bell I assure you...

Cheers for the welcome!

Philip.

It's either that or Onion Rings. 😆

Ah yes, right in the middle of the central belt - I seem to remember meeting with some fellow forumites on the canal(s) round about there once or twice, but it's something I've not done in a long, long time.
I'm from the west of Glasgow.

As for London, well, it's a nice place to visit, but I am not sure I'd want to actually live there for any length of time (I loved the place when I was younger and spent a bit of time there, but then the novelty and excitement wore off a bit) so you are braver than me!

I was last there briefly in 2019, when I had to get from Paddington (ex Penzance) to Euston for the sleeper north.
