Hi all, just joined today and looking forward to maybe getting some good chat and help/advice. Started riding around 18 months ago purely to get me out and about and shed a few pounds, and i love it. Bought a cheap mountain bike as my first ride then a used carrera kraken. Then decided to try a road bike and have never looked back. Bought an old Raleigh Banana and put around a thousand miles in on that but wasn,t really happy with it as it was a little to big [did not know about frame size and fitting back then]. Anyway i did some research and found were i had gone wrong then purchased a used carrera valour that i ride now, although it barely resembles the bike i bought as only the frame is now original due to me upgrading almost every component either due to wear or to try and shed a bit more weight from the bike at every opportunity. It now has full Tiagra groupset, carbon forks and seat post,Bontrager racelite stem and bars and Mach1 rims on Tiagra hubs and i love it. I Have carried out all the work myself as i like to tinker a bit with the spanners. Recently bought another Raleigh Banana replica [people i know who also ride told me i would become addicted and want more bikes,i said i wouldn,t] because i just love the look and the steel frame feel, this bike does fit me and i am currently restoring it but with some upgrades to make it a little more modern and lighter. Frame is bare steel at moment having just been blasted and is going for paint after holidays. This is where i hope some of the folks on here will be willing to offer help/advice regarding one or two little problems i have hit on, but obviously after my initial new member process.Anyway here,s looking forward to some fun and helpful exchanges, best wish,s and merry christmas to all.Richie[thefensman].

Hi and a warm :welcome:to you Ritchie.
I like to do my own stuff on the bikes I've had over the years as well. I've never had to take a bike to the LBS.
I'm no expert mind you but I always seem to get by and enjoy that aspect of having a bike.
I wish you well and many happy hours with your bikes.

Hi and thanks for your message.Working on my bikes myself is something i do enjoy and i,m willing to have a go at anything once. I see it as a great learning curve, the more i work on a bike then the more i understand it and how it works it also saves buckets of money. Did however have to visit my LBS earlier this year when i made my first tentative steps into the world of wheel rebuilding,i had attempted to fit new hubs to my mountain bike and everything went great until it came to actually trueing the wheels, then i had to seek expert help. Hasn,t put me off though because i,m pretty sure i,ll give it another go at some point in the future. Cheers
