Hello there, one and all,
My name's Dan, it's my twentieth birthday today and I've been a "roadie" for want of a better word since September-ish of 2012, when I moved to Canterbury for university. My first bike was a Carrera TDF which slowly got a handful of modifications and upgrades but was stolen in March of last year. All credit to the rozzers, they did their best and were eternally helpful, but sadly to no avail. After that, I wanted to get back into road riding, but funds somewhat limited me, so in September last year I bought my second road bike on a budget....... another Carrera TDF (better the devil you know). Since then, I've been spending more and more time building up my fitness and exploring local routes and cycle paths. I'm hoping to make a series of reasonable upgrades to the bike to make it a tad less... well.... basic in coming months, starting with new wheels and possibly some gearing changes. In recent months I've felt an urge to go off the black stuff and do a bit of exploring. Recent forays on uneven terrain have showed the limitations of my road bike and I've since set myself a budget of £600 to buy a decent hardtail. After much deliberation, I've settled on a Voodoo Bizango, unless anything else crops up in the meantime. Impressive spec, brilliant reviews, MBR's hardtail of the year twice I believe and a competitive price settled it. I've looked at buying second hand, but seemingly there aren't too many large framed bikes in my price bracket being sold. In theory, once I'm back in Canterbury and have my finances in order, I'll be picking the 29er up and joining the world of off road cycling. So that's me and hopefully you'll be seeing a fair bit of me around here in the weeks to come. Any questions, feel free to ask!

:welcome: from Ramsgate!!! If you're looking for some fun MTB trails I recommend Fowlmead Country Park near Deal it has 7km of blue route and 11km of red route, I've not been brave enough to venture on to the red route yet but I've had great fun on the blue. ^_^

There's a great ride on mainly traffic free paths from Canterbury to Whitstable, along the Crab and Winkle way, and once in Whitstable you can pick up the coastal path all the way round to Sandwich.

You've hit on a bit of a sore note there. Last year, in March some time, I was living in university accommodation with my bike in the shelter outside. Got all kitted up one sunny morning to ride to Whitstable along the Crab and Winkle, went to the shelter and found an empty space where my bike used to be and my lock, cut, on the floor. Since then, I moved out of university halls and replaced the bike, but never gotten around to riding that route. Perhaps I should face my daemons and ride it.
I was in the Deal/Sandwich area a few weeks ago, very nice cycling along the seafront there.

Sounds good to me; never need to be asked twice to go to Deal. Hopefully I'll be picking up the Voodoo a week today and depending on exam timing, I'll give it a look in ^_^ Thanks for the heads up!
