Hello everyone my name is Bob and i live in Crewe i have decided to get back into the saddle and i am now awaiting the vouchers from my employers cycle to work scheme.
I am looking to purchase a Boardman hybrid comp from my local Halfords store. I called in the other day to give the Boardman specialist a grilling after some of the reviews I have read. The young chap came across as being very enthusiastic and also rides for a hobby. He was aware of the negativity on the reviews and forums towards Halfords and is more than happy to prove them wrong. So I am going to go for it !!! watch this space

welcome bob, from a fellow resident of cheshire. the boardman bikes are good, bad reviews may come from being set up badly by halfords technicians, who's experience varies massively between stores. maybe you've found a good one.

Hello Wobbly Bob! (of the beer?)

Ive seen those Boardmans in Halfords myself; they look very nice indeed! Bit to much of a bike for me though just yet - as Mr Boycott would say "That be wasted on thee lad" (I'm more of a Bumble fan being a Lancastrian but Boycott's ok when he's not whining)

My mate has never had any probs with Halfords .During his time cycling .
But after listening to me and some others he went lbs .For a compact .Fitted it geat. But the chain kept slipping .They scratched his frame very badly while making alterations ..He's off back to Halfords in future .I should have kept my mouth shut .He is waitng to see what they offer in way of repair .They have gone down to the frame with the scratch .

Yeah! We should all remember that not all Halfords are bad, there are some good one's too.
It's just a pity they don't knock all the bad one's into shape - imagine the business they would get if they had a good reputation and weren't just convenient. ;)

WELCOME !!

And yes some halfords are pretty bad ,luckily the nearest big one to me do have a young guy whos into cycling and knows whats he is talking about,in fact they were the only place to stock some conti gator skins, i always go to the LBS 1st but they did not carry anything better than i have and i needed them for monday.

The Boardmans are cracking bikes for the price i hope you have many enjoyable miles out of it

+1,

Wobbly bob - I forgot to mention that I'm thinking of getting one too! The Hybrid Pro probably. There are already a growing number of Boardman owners on CC. ;)

Hi Bob and welcome aboard.

They look to be great value bikes - you might find it a tad prone to road vibration as it has aluminium forks but that can be easily remedied with some new carbon forks down the line.
