Hello - this is my first post here, having just discovered this forum only last Friday, although I have been posting on Bike Radar for quite some time. I have been cycling for many years - touring and for fun, and over many thousands of miles. By way of further introduction I am a magazine writer and photographer and for the past eight months have been writing and photographing for my own cycling website on the side (www.my-bicycle-and-i.co.uk) I am an American-born Australian who now lives (and rides) in Sussex when not travelling on assignment.

Hello Hoopdriver and welcome to CC.

Sounds like an interesting CV you have there. Travelling, writing and photography is a winning formula, especially combined with a keen interest in cycling.

Get stuck in here: there's plenty to learn and laugh at, and I'm sure you have plenty of experience to share and impart.

hi Hoopdriver.
I just had a quick look at your website, looks interesting. I've saved it in my favourites so I can go back and have a proper read.

That's the one:-
"There is only one phrase to describe his course at this stage, and that is voluptuous curves. He did not ride fast, he did not ride straight, an exacting critic might say he did not ride well -- but he rode generously, opulently, using the whole road and even nibbling at the footpath."

I love it. You know, I've read that book several times, it is my favourite cycling novel (hence my pen name) but I had competely forgotten that passage. I am really impressed that not only did you know it, but were able to pick out that one beautifully descriptive adjective. Hardly anyone has read that novel, it seems, or even heard of it and it is such a brillant bit of social writing and observation at just the time when the bicycle was changing society. Thanks for reminding me of that passage. Now I feel like giving the book another read.

And yes, of course, I ride OPULENTLY! :-)
