My first post and just want to say a big hello to everyone!

Not a hardcore cycler but just started up again after a few years out of the saddle!

Having a MTB for a while it was getting a bit creaky (it is nearly 20years old and has given me sterling service) decided to get myself a new bike - this time a road bike though. Decided to do this as I am mainly riding again to enjoy the countryside and get fit - shedding some fat. As I was aiming to spend more time on road than off I decided a road bike would be better to keep me in the cardio zone and allow me to achieve better results when trying to shift some weight!

The bike I went for was a Carrera TDF which I picked up in a recent promotion that Halfords were running. There is probably some "bike snobbery" around with respect to Halfords bikes but it seems well built and specced (other than the rubbish pedals!!!) for the price. I thought it would be a good road bike to start off with! I have already replaced the pedals for ones that take cleats as I found the toeclips type that came with the bike pretty poor.

I completed my first ride on her last Sunday - an 18 mile round trip from Northallerton to Osmotherley (North Yorkshire) and onto Cod Beck and back to Northallerton via Thimbleby and Kirby Sigston. Great ride but a lot of steep hills after I've had a break for a while!

OK so here I am after a google search! Seems like a great place to be for cycle enthusiasts so look forward to joining in on the community!

Snobbery, you should see it when I a fat lad over take some skinny whippets and they can't come back and over take me... Haha (doesn't happen all the time though  )

Ride the bike, knobs to what others think, go for Lycra ext and you will never go back

And have fun

Thanks all! The snobbery thing doesn't really bother me.... I enjoy cycling. That's it. Whether I have the latest and greatest advancements in cycling technology is not a prime concern! Looking forward to get stuck in again! Planning my next route for Sunday a nice 20miler with so many nasty hills this time! Don't mind the gradual ones just don't like hauling up mountains! (or they feel like it at the moment!). Unfortunately I live around 30miles from where I work so a daily commute is a bit out of the question! Hence I can only get long rides in on the weekends! However will be substituting some of the morning runs with some cycling soon!

 Already had some fun on my last ride.... ended up a road where a stream crossed it luckily there was a hidden bridge nearby! Had I been on my MTB I'd have been straight through it but not on road wheels!

Looking forward to exploring... you see so much more cycling than you do in a tin box with windows in!
