Helmet and clipless

my other half and I both use clipless pedals ive been lucky and not had any clipless moments but other half had one the 1st day she used them she didnt fall off as such as she managed to unclip 1 foot and ran it down my shin stopping herself from falling

I know people always say "clipless moment" and ive seen the videos on youtube but really, im a newbie to cycling abd i still find it hard to see how anyone woukd have such moments? I was put off by clipless as everyone said, you will falk off trust me. Well three months on and still no fall, sureky if you have a modicum of sense and an ounce of balance, any "clipless moments" can be avoided! :-) TOUCH WOOD

I was a late starter to serious cycling, just over 2 years ago and about 3 months later I got my clipless pedals. I didn't keep score, but I must have had into double figures of clipless moments. One of the problems for me is that my legs are short and I need to rest my bike at an angle when at rest - ie I don't have any spare standover height. Clipless moments usually arrived when I was braking under pressure, unclipped my left foot and my bike went right. Its a strange sensation wiggling your left leg in the air, with the right one resolutely fixed to the pedal as you fall to the right.

You can go off me all you like, i simply added my opinion to a forum. I agree that at times of panic or emergency its easycto forget or struggle to unclip but when its just coming to a gradual stop and then forgetting then thars just silly, in my opinion.

It does happen. On a couple of occasions my speedplays haven't disengaged and you get that sudden panic and impending hitting of the Tarmac.

I've had a couple of moments on the Brompton when the cage pedals seem to have taken an iron grip on the sole of my shoes.

At least you lot can blame the cleats.

If I do get a 'clipless moment', I hope it's somewhere quiet with no one about. Sod's Law, however , says it will happen just as I'm
passing the local school and the kids are coming out creasing themselves up with laughter.

After 61 years of riding bikes I've finally resorted to wearing a helmet and going clipless.

Tried the helmet yesterday and was quite surprised that I didn't notice that I'd got one on. So there we go!

When I started riding again, I wasn't looking forward to the helmet wearing but thought I would try a few....wow what a differance from the one I had as a kid.

Barely know its there (In fact some mornings I have to double check I remembered to put it on lol)

I agree, when I bought a new helmet (after trying on over 40), I forget that I am wearing it. I wanted a helmet that was comfortable and that did not make me look like a mushroom. The helmet I chose is fine until I look in the mirror and frighten myself, perhaps that is why other road users give me a wide berth. Nothing to do with the helmet other than I look like Super Marios big-headed cousin

I forget to take my helmet when i go out and i forget i have it on all the time. I guess thats because im so use to it and its very comfortable.
Also i got clipless a few days ago. Not had a clipless moment yet but still getting use to the R540 pedals. Found that it feels weird as less of your foot is on the pedal compared to toe strapped pedals.

I think I must be silly then, just the 4 in 4 months

Others might say sticking your bike to the wall is silly
