Helmet cams far more trouble than they are worth.

Not wanting to splash out on expensive new camera gear I decided to adapt what I already had. Amongst other failings it would prove to be a false economy.

Mounting my super 8 cam on the helmet was the first problem but by no means the worst. That was to be finding and securing a suitable power source. Once mounted it was clear that supporting the camera was giving me considerable neck ache and impaired my head movement.

Then I had to stop every ten minutes to replace the film which itself was expensive and unwieldy and could lead to all sorts of problems if it became entangled in things. The sound quality was a joke unless I went to the trouble of an external mic which was just one more thing to have to carry.

With all that and then the arduous task of editing and finding a suitable place to show the film I decided after 6 months that it just wasn't worth it.

Ride a tandem. That way, the stoker can wind the handle on the cam...
Problem solved!

The only purpose of having a camera when cycling is to get good footage. Why else do you think I have one and shout at other car drivers? For peoples safety? Oh, no. Its to get brilliant responses and footage of road rage!
