In Spanish the word for umbrella is paraguas (literally 'for water'). Oddly enough, I heard a Spaniard speaking in English and referring to a parasol as an 'umbrella'. Literally, the English word parasol means 'for sun' (in Spanish), but in Spanish they call them sombrillas!!Did you know that in French an umbrella is a 'parapluie'? Literally, 'for rain' - as a parasol is 'for sun'. Cool huh? But there's no parameteor to my knowledge.![]()
