Helmet users take more risks!

... or do we simply need to address the real issues of danger such as poor motoring or cycling skills.

Many years ago Meier Hillman suggested that there wpuld be a far greater benefit in terms of accident reduction if the same effort, evangelism and money was spent on road safety education rather then helmet campaigns.

A poor cyclist will always be at greater risk, helmet wearer or not.

Equally a bad driver will endanger both groups with poor overtakes, left hooks etc.

The big choice until then is really to give people the information and then let them analyse their own riding skills and style. They can then make an informed decision as to whether they wear a helmet or not, and which helmet design is appropriate for them.

Of course such freedom of choice is a total anathema to the pro-compulsion lobby.
