Out on the bike today and the shifting on the front was all over the place!! It wouldn't shift smoothly through the three cogs even jumping from the largest to the smallest at one point missing the middle completely! My chain was also rubbing on the front derailleur (I think! Total novice!!) Which hadn't shifted over at all. Is this a simple problem to sort? I am wanting to learn to do as much as I can but don't want to mess with something beyond me. Hoping this makes sense lol. Is anyone able to give me some advice please?

Very simple, no worries.
Take it to the lbs for a tune up, maybe it needs a new cable too.
Simple to diy, time consuming if you don't, you would need a stand as well.
To give you an idea, here's a video :hello:

There's loads of videos on youtube which will show you just about every job you need to do around your bike- your LBS may be a good start if you're a total newby so that at least its set up right to start with, up to you.
