Hi,

Riding back from the gym I felt the left pedel feel a bit odd, I was on a main road with no safe place to stop so I carried on for about a quarter of a mile untill I could have a look. Im that short distance it went from add to wobbley! Seems the pedel had worked loose and has chewed the thread on the left crank arm.

Its an FSA tempo tripple crankset on a 2010 tricross sport (http://www.evanscycles.com/products/specialized/tricross-sport-2010-cyclo-cross-bike-ec020083 )

Ideally, I would like to just replace the left crank as the rest is OK, but it seems that sourcing that part will be hard.

So, is there an alternative crank arm I can use?

Just had a quick look at upgrading the chainset and bottom bracket, would this fit and be cost effective?

And would need something like this to fit it.....

But would MUCH prefer to get just a left hand square taper arm in 172.5

It is very unusual for a properly installed pedal to work loose - the threading of the left and right pedals are not the same, designed specifically so that pedalling naturally tightens them. You should check to ensure they were installed the right way round, otherwise the right one may also work loose in due course.

If the pedal thread is stripped, since the bb is square tapered the most cost effective solution might well be to ring up some well stocked lbs' and ask them if they have a similar left crank lying around. Without knowing your bb spindle length one will however have to try it to see whether it fits.
