And there was you asking for help from people outwith Scotland..

There is a flagstone quarry near Watten, Caithness who might be able to help, and there is also the Flagstone Centre in Castletown which is where that pic was taken.

I've bought the slate as I wanted the Broughton stuff. It's almost a green blue colour with purple through it. It's stunning looking when done right.

Have you had the stone delivered? Would like to see a pic if poss. I've done a fair bit of dry-stone walling in north-west england and what one quarry calls walling stone differs greatly to the next.

As i'm not sure my old co. could help you what about this fella http://www.drystone-walling.co.uk/.

Not been delivered yet as it's not needing built until Feb. I'm looking for something more like the 2 pictures I posted. It's not dry stone walling as such as it is laid with a bed of mortar. You just don't see it.

I know what you mean. Often a dry-stone waller contracted to a council for eg. will be requested to 'cheat' and use an 'invisible' mortar for h & s issues.

The reason why i'm pursuing the dry-stone avenue is because they generally have a very high quality of workmanship.

Yeah they do but it won't be suitable in this occasion as this wall will run from the porch on the outside right through a glass partition into the house as the internal part will form a feature wall and be part of a retaining wall.

Sounds very nice.

Hopefully it will be. Spent a lot of time designing the bloody thing and we're getting a reputation for doing things differently and to a very high quality. Spent a lot of time and effort getting the best plumbers, electricians, plasterers, tilers etc..... They all work to a high standard and really care. They bring their wives and girlfriends to jobs to show them what they've done they are that proud of their work. Treat them well and they'll treat you well has always been my way of working.

Lot of people have shown an interest in buying it already and we've just really started the brickwork.

Bit like this mate only better. Better slate and quality. Also nothing like the background as it's a totally different layout. Just a idea of roughly what it will be like. Our glass and slate join will be far better also as this looks clumsy and a bit lazy. Ours will look seemless with no break in the slate either

Cheers mate. Just -mail him the 2 photos below and that will explain it hopefully. The bottom one is roughly what I'm looking to do and the first picture is the finish I'm looking to achieve.

No problem

I could ask his dad for you if you like. He won't do it but may be able to put you onto someone.

What are you thinking of having done with it in specific terms so I can describe it a bit better to him? PM the details if you want. I think I can get some info to him via email but it won't be quick.

Will do, can only ask eh?

You're looking to start in Feb?

Been thinking also that Cumbrian builders might not be short of work at the moment with all the flood and water damage to put right.

Try Mike Crowe of Ulverston. I've seen some of their work with slate and it is verry good. I'm not sure of the travel side of things but.

Cheers mate.

Nothing on his website to suggest he does what I'm looking for though. He seems a general type bulider who I'm sure is good and would have a go but not really what I need. I need a specialist. He does too much other stuff.

As I said in in an earlier post. This house will be going on the market for well over £1million and the rest of the work will be spot on and to the highest standard. I'm looking to get someone who builds with this stuff all the time as it is the first feature you'll see as you enter the house. It needs to be 100% spot on. I won't accept anything less.
