Hello,

I am new to the forum - would appreciate some advice as I'm going round in circles.

I have a Ridgeback Genesis Day 01 that I've been riding for commuting (about 15 miles round trip) for about ten years. The frame fits me and I have liked the bike -when my first Day 00 got stolen i replaced it with an 01.

I've probably not looked after it as well as I should. It now needs about £300 worth of service. I have been thinking about buying a new one for a while and can afford about 800 quid. Now I can't decide
(a) buy a new hybrid or racing bike - possibly a Boardman one
(b) get an old nice vintage steel frame built up into a new bike
(c) use the money to upgrade my current bike.

Is it foolish to buy a new one when i have one that has served me well? the frame seems ok but as it is aluminium does it have a limited lifespan? The bike will be mainly for commuting but also for some longer ~80 mile rides. I don't want anything too flashy and going fast is more important to me than what the bike looks like really.

Thanks very much.

If speed on roads is your aim, then a drop bar road bike is the way to go. Get one to which you can add panniers and guards for commuting

Or get a cheaper roadbike like the Decathlon Triban 3 and get your current beastie fixed
