Decathlon / BTWin Triban 500SE new. Can't be beaten on value at that price range. Carbon fork alu frame and decent 8 sped group set in Microshift.

My son's using Microshift on his Felt 95 Jr and it's fine; he's done 1000+ miles on it in a year including racing it.

One on the 500se is only an 8 speed, judging by micro shift web site is equivalent to sora.

I have some vouchers for halfords so could stretch a bit further. Thoughts on the boardman road sport?

Screw the pedals on, attach the handlebars to the stem, and put the seat at the right height.

So it's 7 turns of an Allen key. Takes all of 10 minutes.

Just bought one for my son, hard to go wrong at £299. I'm struggling to see how my Bianchi is 10 times better but not having that discussion with the wife. Microshift seems really good. Very positive action and nice the fact that it has dedicated levers rather than using brake lever for one, both easily reached from hoods and better than the thumb downshift that some systems have. The welds are pretty neat on the frame and the carbon fork looks good.
