Can anyone help me to smooth problems between my new laptop with windows vista on and my old printer a lexmark p4350.

I have installed ok and used the new driver from the lexmark website no problems. But when i come to print vista says that the printer cannot communicate with the operating system.

I have tried to enable the allow bidirectional support check box in ports within the printer properties menu but the check tick won`t stay checked.

any ideas?

thanks

On the Lexmark site - there are two vista drivers, normal Vista (32 bit) and Vista 64 bit. Firstly make sure it is the right one. The last lexmark one I setup definitely did not work with the XP drivers.

Also make sure that old drivers have been fully uninstalled, look to see if there is an uninstall option in the software menu somewhere.

You may also need to install the driver software first before connecting the usb lead to the PC.

thanks for the advice.

I stripped off everything related to the printer and double checked the driver from lexmark.

I think my error was plugging in the usb before loading on the software as this time I ran the driver and then plugged in the usb when prompted and now it seems to be working ok. At least for now!

Is it possible trying to print http documents jam up printers? At work there always seems to be some web page someone is trying to print off stuck in the print queue and I wonder if i should avoid doing the same at home?

Glad it's now working.

Shouldn't be a problem printing web pages at home - see how it goes.
