Help. Seat post issue

Hi all. So Ive recently purchased a Giant TCR road bike from ebay. Now stupidly I checked the whole bike over and no marks or cracks. However i never looked at the seat post. Don't ask me why. Stick novice above my head. Anyone got home and I noticed that the seat post at some point has snapped and been repaired as per the photo. What are people's thoughts on this? Is it safe to ride? Any sensible help would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm not sure, but that looks like the original fitment to attach the saddle to the fly through (is that the right term ?) seat tube.

I'm not familiar with it.
It's a strange arrangement.
As long as everything is tightened up, I can't see a problem.

Why do you think the seat 'post' has "snapped? Have you inspected the top where 'severing' has taken place?

new versions of the Advanced SL model have an 'integrated seatpost' older ones don't. I'm sorry to say that I only know about circular bike tubes and seatposts made of metal that can be moved up and down. My first thought after googling for that model was 'F*** me, that's an expensive bike'.

Especially if the cut seatpost is a little shorter than the slightly longer legged rider needs. It already has a spacer in there.

Looks like the adjustment method for an integrated seat post to me, could be wrong though, imagine once cut this gives a small amount of adjustment.

IIRC there is potential for a little adjustment once the integrated post has been cut. Neither pic looks out of the ordinary
