Help with British passport

Had a similar problem with my stepdaughter who's changed her name to mine (her surname, not Bernard) by deed poll, and who's arse wipe excuse for a real father hasn't been seen for 15 years. In the end she got invited down to Luton for an interview by the passport Gestapo and was issued one promptly after that.

Just guessing here the mothers death certificate may give some indication of her date and place of birth. It may give you a starting point.

Anything relating to a Will or Probate? May give a hint of relatives / relations, NoK.

If you know an experienced and knowledgable genealogist / family historian have a chat with them, tracking down the antecedence of people is bread and butter stuff to them. There is a lot of infornation in the public domain its just a matter of knowing where to look.

it states Waterford Ireland and there is a date of birth, which differs from what we knew, no will or probate....the problem she does have a half sister but she is not reliable for information....she was born in England

Sounds like a visit to the passport office is in order for an official interview. My local one is Durham iirc.

Unfortunately I have no experience researching in Ireland. An application for a birth certificate based on the information that you have with the local Registrar may be productive. The parish may have some records however if the family have connections with the Catholic Church they can be a little hesitant in releasing BDM information.

I'm of no use at all to the question, but generally what needs to be proven to get a passport?

Doesn't her NI Number, school record and the information used for the deed poll count for anything?

As mentioned before, a face to face interview, taking as much proof as you might have, would be the best approach I reckon.
At least you're in Peterborough so won't have to travel miles to get there!

@User - could she get an Irish passport instead? My kids have that one rather than a British passport. An interview together with her school certificates / evidence may help to prove she's been here since being very young.
