Help with Mercian bike

Just thought i'd update everyone that spoke to me on this thread, I finally managed to get the fork out after the stem was jammed in, I now have the serial number of the frame which has put the bike as made in 1966.

When I was growing up in Leeds, an older lad round the corner had a Mercian in a beautiful pale orange. I lusted after that bike, and I have wanted to custom paint a bike in that shade ever since. Good to see another, which would seem to be well worth spending a bit of money on. Or, if you don't want it, I could take it off your hands ...
