Dear all
Before his passing my father in law was restoring a 1971 Yamaha 350 R5. His widow has asked me to sell it on but she would like it to go complete in the hope it will be restored. Im not certain where to advertise or what to ask for it. As you can see the bike has had quite a bit spent on it as he loved it including a replacement gearbox a rebore with replacement pistons etc.

The bike before it was dis assembled

The bike has American plates so do you have a V5 or at least the import documentation?
Selling the bike as a complete unit will be difficult without it.

Put an ad in Classic and Motorcycle Mechanics magazine, as they pay more attention to Japanese machines than some of the others. You might also try an ad on the dotheton website, as there are quite a few Brits on there. If the timing were better I'd ha it myself.

That's a lovely bike and brings back memories of my first bike (its little brother) the YDS7 250. The YDS7 below is for sale at http://www.unit1motorcycles.co.uk/bigbikes/1075.shtml asking £3795.

Then there's a 'barn find' YR5 on ebay asking £1199, whereas yours looks to be very nicely restored and would command a much better price once rebuilt. If it doesn't get rebuilt you'll have to factor that in to the price.

Good luck!

Thanks all I have spoken with her and she is now considering gifting the bike to an enthusiast they both knew who would complete the bike.

By all means do that, but with a covenant that if he sells it afterwards, you are entitled to a share of the profit - ie the sale price less what he has spent to complete it. Providing there is a profit, of course - classic bikes are not always the gold mines that some people think.

Great. But that bike is worth £k's as it is.

Even as a half finished jigsaw that's gotta be worth £2k, probably nearly double that if completed to a high standard and given an age related plate.

Thanks all again the guy who is taking it on was an ex TT racing partner of my FIL.Im told he said it would be his great honor to take on the project and was extremely touched. He went on to say when its completed it will be her decision to sell it or keep it and take it to shows.I believe she wants to keep it and show it especially as I have a full bike license
