Helping a waxed chain or imagination?

I’ve started wiping down my waxed chain by spraying it with an automotive spray wax prior to wipe down. It helps get bits of junk off the chain more easily but I’m also noticing that the chain spins quite well after doing this. I’m guessing (?) this very thin wax is able reach locations in the chain a normal waxing doesn’t?
Not certain if I’m imagining this or not but have decided to make it part of my waxing routine anyway.

I’ve been doing something that seems to work. Wet a towel (small) and put it in the microwave for 90 seconds. Fold it over and pick it up with an oven mitt. Quickly grip the hot towel around the bottom of the chain and back spin the pedal for about 20 seconds. Done. Clean chain, no flakes, no drips.
After each 100 miles, apply liquid wax lube to each roller.
