For some reason we didn't do this last year, but intend to be in action this year 28th April

https://www.dens.org.uk/event/hemel-hillbuster/

To that end I doubled my mileage for the year this weekend (its been a slow start, rubbish weather and general lazyness of not wanting to ride on a Sunday after a Saturday hockey match). 27 miles with the OH on Saturday and the 50 miles yesterday at a lively pace with the Hemel FB cycle group, yesterday. My legs didnt know what had hit them by the evening.

This got cancelled at 8.26am, just ahead of the 8.30 registration opens

To be fair to the organisers i think someone was doing a last minute route check and realised several lanes wee underwater from overnight rain so took the rider safety option.

I'd fished out the gravel bike with mudguards and discs and didnt fancy the carbon wheel / rim brake combo so went for a ride once its stopped raining.

I turned up and rode - it was mucky and I reckon the organisers made the right call. This year has been pretty naff weather wise - large parts of the park where the ride starts have been underwater all year, causing cancellation of multiple parkruns. Gutted for the local charity - it’s one of their main fundraisers. It does sound as though they are trying to reorganise.
