Sorry if it seems a bit obvious but I suffer badly with cold hands and feet in the winter months on the bike. A very simple solution I use (I'm thinking of you @slowmotion after the Brighton ride, I stuck some in my shoes in the Cafe at Crawley.) is the hot hands disposable hand warmers. Used to use them when playing golf but have started popping one in each shoe. You can get specific foot ones but the hand ones are larger providing moreheat for longer .

I know it's not a joke, it's an old trick that people have used here too. Also in the cold you don't want shoes and gloves too tight as it restricts the blood flow and as you say, you feel the cold more.

Shoving a newspaper down the front of your jersey for a chilly descent is a well known method of avoiding hypothermia.Not too many newsagents on Welsh mountaintops unfortunately.

I wear my Thinsulate motorcycle gloves in winter and still suffer from cold fingertips..

Lobster mitts are good for this. Two claws that each house two fingers to keep each other warm.
