Hi Everyone - Advice needed on new purchase for sportive bikes v hybrid commuter

Hi all,

I have recently started riding last year and purchased a Carrera Zelos to test if I liked this road riding malarkey

I have caught the bug big time and now is the time to upgrade to a better bike. I commute 28 miles a day on rural roads and the Carerra is proving to be weak over these rough roads although it has been a good intro bike for me. I am also looking to compete in my first sportive in a few weeks time so need advice from more experienced riders on my next bike for a bike to not only commute but also for training and sportives.
I have joined the cycle to work scheme so have £1k budget. looking at a Whyte Dorset in the hybrid range and a Scott 2014 Speedster 20 Compact or Triple - any recommendations??

Whyte Dorset is a road bike, not a hybrid

It's got drop bars, more rugged than the Scott as it has disc brakes, will take mudguards and rack and has 28mm tyres. The Scott runs on 25mm tyres, no rack lugs, doubtful clearance for full mudguards, rim brakes. It'll be lighter and feel swifter

Hybrids typically have flat bars, that said you could easily say it's a hybrid of a road bike and mountain bike...or road bike and cx bike...which I guess is why the term hybrid is a nonsense

In true hybrid style, for whyte that would be the portobello/Cambridge/Stirling r7 range
