That's a good question! I went in with John on the 28th and sent him a PM that evening to see how he got on with the route back but I haven't seen or heard from him since. I thought he was fine on the bike in traffic (if a little sore in the saddle - he did howl on some of the bumpier bits ) and we ended up going in via the Jamaica Road and over London Bridge.

Hi Chris,

sorry for not getting back to you... two small kids , new work contract and a bad cold have sucked all my time/energy into the next spacetime continuum.

I can't exactly remember how I got back that evening, the usual this road feels right type approach with me occasionally recognising a viable route.

It was a pleasure having your company/direction that morning. It makes all the difference cycling with someone who doesn't mind a slower rider and also someone who's experienced with the traffic and how to approach it.

Once I'm over this cold we must do it again?

Thanks

John

You go too early for me and I only go as far as Southwark, but if it's any help, this is the route I would use if I were going to Islington...

A mix of fast main roads and a quieter bit through Dulwich. I'd agree with other posters that the main roads are in many ways preferable to the side streets. The only really nasty bit is Elephant & Castle, but you can use the awful bypass route if you want to avoid it.
