when you say i think ill start somthing new and im going to prepare my self well,
then people say you wont be able to do it or talk to you like your stupid do you then say thanks for the advice ill go and do somthing else instead no you dont but as usual with forums there are people who are helpfull and there are sarcastic people
who think thier funny.
i have taken on board what people have said, and am changing some of the things i said in the first post.
the major things are theyll be only 2 of us doing the full route ill be doing less mileage mabye about 50 to 60 a day. we will have backup all the way and mabye well change other things as we discover things.

Hi Sean,
You must not take peeps remarks too seriously, what you have to remember is that every one of us on here have like you been beginners at cycling: and have then progressed into cycle touring and during that learning curve have learnt a lot about thing that work and do not work..
Thus there is a lot of expertise available to you for the asking, likewise to assist peeps to give you good advise you need to give updated feedback as you modify your plans. We have all had grand plans of what we like to achieve, but alas often the reality is we have to modify those plans to suit the reality. your change to 50-60 miles a day is one good idea, it will make the ride much more doable. I would say if you can buy the bike you intend to use for the ; buy it now, that will allow you to get used to it, to tune it to your riding style, a badly tuned bike might be ok for one or two days, but believe me riding it day after day can destroy your will power.

Getting a boardman road sport through the cycle to work scheme.
Going to use this as my training bike and to comute to work.
What do people think to this bike, have read a lot of reviews and they are quite good. What would it be like as a long distance bike say about 50 mile trips

Hi Sean;
I have read all the comments you have received so far; Don't be disheartened mate. Everyone means well and it is usually best not to overextend yourself (or in your case, your team-mates either). If you are doing hotels and stuff and are booked in, you will be under pressure to manage the 100 miles everyday because you HAVE to get there! This could put you in a situation of cycling in darkness, which is never fun! I would go for 70-75 miles a day. There is another factor that nobody has touched on...... The scenery, the fun and enjoying the moment! If your on a strict timeline you will be missing all the beautiful sights and scenery; You will be too busy 'stressing' to stop and take pictures, have a beer and lunch when your ahead of schedule... You should also remember that these tours take their toll on the body (and bike), so a realistic mileage each day will take less of a hammering on your body, bike and more importantly.....Your mind! You should read my blog and I am pretty sure that it will inspire you that anything is possible!!! superbadger1973.blogspot.co.uk

All the best mate with the :training: and the trip.

Looking at the Spec, it would be more than able to cover 50 miles,( by the way to some peeps 50 miles is done before breakfast and long distance is 100+ miles:-) )
I think once you are riding it, you will be pleased with it, I think the biggest problem most peeps have on a new Bike is the Saddle, something only you can find out once you are turning a few miles out. The nice thing is you can put Panniers on it, however, I have never had much faith in some of the eyelets brased onto some bikes which are not dedicated touring bikes

Hi
Welcome to the forums.
Will your cycle to work amount stretch to the next Boardman up in the range? The Boardman Road Race? Its still only got Soras on but its a better system than on the Road Sport with its 2300s on but a long way. I have a Giant with Soras on & I cover a lot of miles on it with no problems. For the extra £149 its much more bike for your money.

Good luck with your training. Getting out on the road is much better than training on a Turbo. Turbo's are great for specific training and when its chucking it down but there is no feeling like getting out on the local highways and byways and riding.:bicycle:

Great blog badger parts of it made me laugh. dont think id atempt it on such a low budget.

Probs with cycle to work scheme is its like having credit ive only requested £500 and you cant add money to it so stuck with a £500 bike. Might just upgrade it as i go along as realy like to pay cash for stuff and not get to much credit

Glad you enjoyed it; I guess my blog demonstrates that there is only so much a team, cash and a high-end bike will do! Since I had none, I guess the true test was myself and the planning. Stay mentally strong and that will help carry your body through.... I liken big tours the same as a marathon runner; Half of it comes down to your mentality.

"hi new nutter here" I think the word you are looking for is 'nobber'.

Anyway: good luck with your ride but perhaps try something a little less gruelling before you go public. Learn to eat and what to eat on the bike and have back up in case you miscalculate and it might be best not to go out on the pizz with the gang at each depot.
