Hi-Viz only works if drivers look for it, bright lights work best if you put then on the bike, don't expect drivers to look up to head hight to see them...
...and your evidence for this is?.....;)

sew on some straps? or some of those ...I never remember what they are called - but those clips like to close bags?

Not sure if you could prove if Hi-Vis is really noticed by car drivers one way or the other. Asking them would be biasing the question. ;)

Actually you could, using fMRI (functional MRI scanning) looking at brain function. If I had time, funding and it was of relevance to my work (which it isn't really, although it could be a student project....) I'd love to run a study looking at the perception of hi-vis/lights etc.

Yes, that sounds as if it would work. Didn't anticipate anyone having access to such technology on the forum:laugh: By the way it would be a very interesting study.

On the bright side, if it is flapping around, it's way more likely to be spotted than a figure-hugging item. So, it's not a parachute, it's an extra level of safety.
Indeed, don't do it up just let it flap

Just ride around with a traffic cone on your head, with a 10 foot flag poking out the top which has flashing lights and speakers and a speed camera attached.......easy.....

Amazes me that cycling jersey manufacturers don't do a plain & simple high-viz yellow jersey, maybe with a tiny little bit of reflective piping round the seams and pocket edges....

Wish Montane did a yellow version of their Slipstream gilet too.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I have a sam browne, arm bands ,big sticker on the back of the helmet and reflective piping around the back of my calves and on my gloves.

If it cool like today i will put my yellow wind proof on as well and that has reflective bits as well, top that off with piping on the panniers and 5 rear lights ...

better to look a twat than to be a dead twat i always say .............

Edit and probikekit please for us old farts lets have sizes in inches !

I have the Karrimor gilet mentioned above which cost me £6 from Sports ... erm Direct ? ( used to be Soccer .. that one ) .

Loads of reflective strips on front , sides and rear . Got the small size which is a good snug fit for my 41" chest .

It is a running gilet . I got it because it doesn`t have a mesh back and therefore keeps my jacket from getting the old black stripe up the back .

Plus I don`t see the point of spending £35+ to look a tit when you can do it for £6.

I've got a Mavic Vision jersey & Gilet on order from CRC... yes it's expensive & no doubt I'm paying for the Mavic brand, however I've previously found their clothing to be rather good so I'm hoping they're of the same quality.
