They haven't actually found it yet. They have found a god like particle but they will have to do lots of further test to prove that it's the real McCoy.

Of course it does, that's why I don't see why it should be tainted by likening it to something religious rather than just using its proper name and leaving religion out of science.

Apparently the convention is that the prize isn't awarded to institutions - a maximum of three people can share it.

Not quite the full story I think - there are details in certain Nobel prizes that prevent joint recognition but not in all, in particular not in the Physics prize. The EU got the peace prize last year right? There is no precedent of the Physics prize being awarded to a group before but I heard recently that it was not against the rules of that particular prize.
