This is the response I got from Tfl including their link for Q&A and feedback which they'll accept after the trial period starts.

I looked through the listings of the red routes and there are loads of them. I'm now working out which red routes to try to start avoiding.

Buzzed by loads of scooters with inches to spare this morning on the A23 red route. It's going to be truly awful.

Thank you for your email, received 7th October expressing your concerns regarding the use of bus lanes by motorcycles.

This is an issue that formed part of the Mayor’s campaign manifesto, and as such, a trial scheme will be launched on 5th January next year. Motorcyclists will be able to share bus lanes on red routes with buses, cyclists and black taxis on a trial basis for eighteen months. The trial will be evaluated at the end of this period, and a decision will be made as to whether to make the change permanent.

The change will only apply to Transport for London bus lanes that operate with the flow of traffic, and motorcyclists are advised to familiarise themselves with the bus lanes open to them as well as checking the signs before entering any bus lanes. There is more information about the bus lanes affected and how to make representations about the scheme at:

www.tfl.gov.uk/motorcyclesinbuslanes

I trust that this information has been of use to you; however, if you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely

I had no idea it was restricted to red routes only. How confusing is that? I suspect a lot of motorcyclists won't know either and I don't blame them for trying it on anyway - the publicity has been pretty crap.

i think everyone knows my views on this as ive ranted and vented plenty

Oh yes indeed  . I'm kind of glad that the m/cycle forum I moderate on hasn't had ranters slagging cyclists off like this else it could have ended in tears....

Nope. They are typical. Of posters on Internet fora.

I am prepared to enter into this sharing Bus Lanes with motorbikes and mopeds with an open mind.

I had thought of those on motorbikes as oppossed to those on mopeds as well-balanced road aware individuals. I've never had an issue with someone on a motor-bike (apart from the odd irritation when they block the ASL).

In prep for Jan 5th I thought I'd visit a Motorbiking Forum just to get an idea of the debate from their perspective.

And I'm in  . Somebody please tell me that the Posters on the linked Forum are atypical!

The first mistake you made was choosing Visor Down as a 'typical bikers forum'

The second one you made was the stereotype that we are all 15 stone middle aged lard arses ;)

As I think I mentioned elsewhere on the forum, I've been commuting up & down the (knock 'em in the)Old Kent Road(have a banana)for the last month and have noticed more motorbikes using the bus lanes.
For the greater part the motorcyclists are using the bus lane to filter but sticking to the outside of the lane and passing me with consideration. The problem IMO is with scooters that try to force their way thru anywhere, riding up my a*se and in some cases undertaking me while I'm holding the road so a Taxi doesn't try a close overtake!

The behaviour displayed by the scoot is the same we see with the RLJ pavement hopping cyclist, and that is a total lack of respect for others - born by lack of understanding for why we observe the rules.

Anyway, I'd be fairly wide if I were 15 stone @ 5ft 3" :?:

And you'd just be known as Linford's Luch!

The scooter/cycle analogy shows two instances where there is a huge gap in road training and education in certain areas.
