I understand what you mean but what mid-range frame are you on about. One mans mid range is an £800 giant bike, to another it is a mid level Look. I think normally there is no reason to go above Ultegra/Record/Force.
Ok. Using my current other bike as an example, I went for a Ridley Noah SL in Lotto Soudal Team form which is fitted with Ultegra. The alternative, for the same price was the Noah (Non SL frame) with Dura Ace. Therefore comparing like for like frame vs groupset.

This option gave me a lighter frame and the split front forks that I like. Happy with Ultegra tbh, but Dura Ace would be nice too.

The same argument could be used for Di2 instead of manual, or eTap which I am really fancying.

Clearly been approaching things the right way so far then.

It’s just a shame that framesets are so expensive in comparison to building up a bike by yourself.

I have 2 bikes presently, with 4 sets of wheels, not counting the damaged set. Would much rather build my own and not have an additional set of wheels that I will never use.

It's all increasing levels of silliness that Campagnolo produce just for the fun of it. Record is still their flagship IMO. And you're saying that Ultegra is adequate, then Chorus certainly is, and probably Potenza which was intended as a direct competitor to Ultegra.

Potenza has been getting less than positive reviews.

Carbon fibre... LMAO!!!
The frame is the heart of your bike...the backbone to which everything else fits to. No point having ultra lightweight super duper stiff components and drivetrain if the frame is flopping about all over the place. The frame will (unless it's made of that carbon fibre crap) outlast everything else on the bike.
Frame first. Everything else can be upgraded over time.

Absolutely. All the bling in the World won't make a crap frame better, but an outstanding frame can work awesomely with even mediocre componentry.
