I simply do not understand the point in having extremely fast cars for use on UK roads, especially when the people posting here claim to never use the speed and power of the car what's the point?

Because they sound awesome and they lie about keeping to the speed limits ha!

The Costa Clyde rain magnet.
That is what the flashing blue lights are for.
Not all Police vehicles have flashing blue lights. Surveillance and CID for starters. Robberies don't always happen when there is a blue light equipped vehicle handy.

The people that own them wonder why you do not have one, choice it is a wonderful thing. What is the point of having a racing bike if all you do is shopper speed.

Is the answer Toyota?
No... that'd be the car a LONG way behind because they're really REALLY slow due to a totally pants auto box or a general lack of power.

TRACK DAYS

The great thing about the Ultima is it's an epic track day car which has been uncompromised by it's road usability. Unlike the Exige this track focus hasn't compromised it's normal road behaviour enough for it to become compromised for normal daily road use when required.

On the other hand for something like the 5er GT you want a lot of low rev torque but a diesel engine but for some reason a diesel engine is not appropriate for it's use. So to get all that torque at 1750-2000rpm have to have huge amounts of power at over 5000rpm. You end up with a fast car but if you never go over 3500 rpm it'll never actually accelerate that quickly.

It's an interesting question and there's probably some truth in the car as status symbol. I call mine the mid-life crisis car because I hope I'm able to laugh at my own foibles.

But, away from the willy-waiving, I'd compare driving a decent car to the experience of going out for a meal at a very posh restaurant. You don't need the larks' tongues in a reduction of unicorn's tears to fuel your body and you wouldn't want it every night, but there is pleasure in the act itself. People just take their pleasures in different ways.

Interesting how most people seem to drive at more than the posted speed limit where they're able to, but when I was an ICU nurse, all the patients I looked after that had been hit by a car had usually been hit by cars reported to have been going at 5mph below the speed limit.

I simply don't see the point in having a 52" surround sound HD telly when I can see all I need to see on 12" black and white portable.

I understand luxury, and or expensive cars just not sub 6sec 0-60 160mph+ cars, I used too just don't now. There is no where in the UK where you can use that sort of power, other than like @GrasB on track days which I agree are probably a lot of fun.

I find that the willy-waiving is more the forte of drivers in small ricer/chav fart-boxes. It's interesting that I have owned 2 cars which use the same sort of engines found in these fart-box c**k substitution devices. However, when you get them side by side my cars even though performance with out consideration to noise levels drove the exhausts' construction/tuning they sound far less fart-box & often quieter yet produced a damn sight more power.
