I have been rather surprised at what some people can get up on higher fixed gears than that! I have seen longers, bokonon and others get up 20% on fixed. I still think it is bonkers, but it is impressive to witness!
I do gear lower than a lot of people but it's wide open countryside round here and usually windy and I want a gear that I can spin comfortably into the headwinds.
Winnats he rates as 8 and Mow Cop as 9. For the record he has Cat & Fiddle as a 4 (ridden from the Macclesfield side). I've never ridden it so can't comment.
Cat and Fiddle is only hard if you try to go up as fast as possible (like all hills). The gradient means you can spin up if you like and just enjoy the ride. Winnats is plain hard, no matter what gear you've got

The Cat and Fiddle feels no different to a 10 mile TT IMO and takes approximately the same amount of time for most people. It doesn't hurt in that distinctive "climbing" sort of way.
That said, it is the National Champs course I am waiting for
Bealach na ba and Great Dunn Fell are two climbs that I have had on my UK shortlist for some time. I also fancy having a go at the Fred Whitton route, though not the actual event.

I had planned to go over Kirkstone Pass on my way down from JOG in May but was ill with a bug after Glasgow and lost a day in bed, and my companions. With bad weather all the way I changed route to go over Shap instead.
