Hissing from tyre but no puncture

Title says it all. My front tyre has a small cut in it. Last night as I was putting the bike away I heard a hissing noise. Oh no, a puncture I thought.

Took the tyre off. No puncture to be found.

It was a very wet ride .Can water in the cut cause this hissing as it comes out under pressure?

probably not the tyre at all but the front suspension? I thought the same once!
