Hit and run

Just out of hospital having been knocked off my bike by a piece of excrement who drove into the back of me last Wednesday and then scuttled off, leaving me sprawled in the road.
Now nursing several cracked ribs, a fractured knee, ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, lateral and medial meniscal tears and various scrapes, cuts and bruises.
Loads of decent people did stop, including two off duty paramedics who were passing and thank you to all those who did help, including the three witnesses who gave their details to police.
Sadly, no registration number was taken so the only known detail is a medium sized family saloon, probably light blue in colour.
Police will be checking for any available cctv, which is a possibility as this was at a busy shopping complex, but I don't hold out much hope of pinning it on any likely driver, even if one is identified, due to the lack of descriptive detail.

Not really sure why I am posting this, just feeling sorry for myself really and needed to vent.

Going to be a long road ahead, but I'm determined to get back on the bike and rise above scum such as that driver. Even though I can't do anything about what has happened, at least I can pick myself up, dust myself off and get on with it.

Sorry to hear what happened.
Hope they catch whoever did this and throw the book at them :ninja:.
Wishing you a speedy, good recovery.
Take care x

Glad you're on the mend.

Time to get onto the MIB, who exist to cover losses incurred by uninsured or unidentified drivers. Get your insurers to make contact, less likely to get fobbed off.

Hope you make a swift and full recovery.

Oh dear, sorry to hear about that.

Worth posting time and place on here - a long shot but someone who knows something may see it.

What can happen is a witness who has the reg number doesn't report it because he/she makes the assumption someone else will have done - particularly if the several people are attending at the time.

You could return to the scene and ask around, you mention shops, so staff in one those may be able to help.

if you do that, do it at the same time as the accident and ideally the same day of the week - a lot of us have routines and are in the same place at the same time.

I was left in the road by an a**e who left hooked me in 1978 but I wasn't hurt, just my pride as a little old lady and a pedestrian picked me and the bike up as car disappeared into estate.
They are scum who deserve license removing. GWS and get out there soon.

Thank you all for your support, it really does mean a lot.
I wasn't aware I could pursue an unidentified motorist and thank you for that information and I will pursue through British Cycling with whom I am insured.

The incident happened on Wednesday 13th January at around 1225 at the Merry Hill Shopping Centre, near Brierley Hill in the West Midlands, just in case anyone saw anything.

You may find British Cycling/solicitors are not interested in an untraced driver's claim because there's little money in it for them.

If they are not keen to help, here's the link for doing it yourself.

Get well soon, and I hope they catch the lowlife POS who did this.

Don't worry too much about descriptive details of the driver. If a registration number can be found through CCTV as you hope, then section 172 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 is a useful tool for the Police as it makes it hard for the registered keeper to wriggle out of identifying the driver....

(2)Where the driver of a vehicle is alleged to be guilty of an offence to which this section applies—

(a)the person keeping the vehicle shall give such information as to the identity of the driver as he may be required to give by or on behalf of a chief officer of police, and

(b)any other person shall if required as stated above give any information which it is in his power to give and may lead to identification of the driver.

Sorry to hear about your incident, and I wish you a full & speedy recovery. Fingers crossed for a positive outcome on the cctv review, and that the driver gets the punishment they deserve.
