On the way home on Friday night I was riding down a hill into a right hand bend with a smaller road joining from the left. A car coming up the hill didn't even brake , I realised what was about to happen and braked hard and turned hard left. I skidded into the drivers door but remained upright. The driver pulled up further up the road then drove off. Was a bit shaken up at the time but thought I'd let it go as he was an old fella etc etc. anyway this morning I can hardly walk so I'm guessing I've twisted something, I've also got a golf ball sized swelling on my shin from where my left SPD jammed into my leg as I tried to keep myself upright.
So my question ; is it now too late to report this to the police ? The more I think about it the more I reckon that if you can drive a car straight at somebody without noticing a set of Ay Ups you really shouldn't be on the roads.

No, it's not too late. You should phone the non-emergency number right away to report it. The driver has committed a serious offence anyway by leaving the scene. You need to get your leg looked at by a doctor as soon as you can.

I assume you have his details or reg. at least ?

Yes log it with the police - in my off I reported in 24hours, but as I wasn't 'that' injured I had to persuade them to even log it. Didn't prevent a problem as driver admitted fault.

Take a trip to your GP or A&E (get's it on file/seen by medical staff- I went to the GP a week or so later, then was referred for xrays. Photograph injuries and note damage to bike. Do watch a 'golf ball' sized swelling - best get checked out.

Do you have BC/CTC cover ? Worth phoning driver, explaining you can't walk are very sore, and can you have his insurance details. You don't need it, as your solicitor can obtain the records these days.

+1 to everything.

It's not too late, you thought there was no injury/damage, and injury has since developed.

I'll repeat again Fossy's advice to go see a GP or hospital, and take your own photos of the injury.

Unless you have the car reg, a good desciption of the driver and witness(es) I would forget it and move on. Next to nothing will be done unless you have all of these.

I got the reg and verified it with askmid. No witnesses, they all helpfully drove around me. To be honest the thought of a 4 hour wait at A&E doesn't really appeal. Will give the non emergency number a call and ask them to log it.
Cheers for the advise all.

Would you rather spend longer, later, only to be told you should have come in earlier due to the nature of the injury/damage.

The description of a "golf ball sized swelling" doesn't sound that good. I'd prefer a larger area affected just for something like you described caused the injury.

Or make an appointment with your GP or visit an NHS walk in centre. I've done the later after a fall, and got the road rash beautifully cleaned up and dressed and got some kick arse antibiotics. Wait was only 10 minutes or so. You're seen by a nurse, who'll either reassure you that it's ok, or send you to A&E for an xray if there is doubt.
