Comments are a bit harsh. I've never been hit by a bus but I can't imagine it's a pleasant experience.

How can he have right of way when the commodity does not exist?
No parked vehicles on one side of the road usually means anyone travelling that way has the right of way over someone who has to pull out to overtake a parked vehicle coming in the other direction.

There is no such thing is right of way.

There is "priority", and that's a commodity to be given, never forcibly or blithely taken, because physics trumps the laws of man.

Using the frame posted above, and using the bus wheel as a guide there would appear to be 5'-6' between the bus wheel and the kerb. Far from desirable, but in the pantheon of close passes it's not likely to feature on Britians Chumpiest Drivers with a witty into by Harry Hill.

5-6' between kerb and wheel. Photo looks like OP is riding 2-3' from the kerb, another 1.5' for centre of body to outside of elbow gives a rough estimate of 6" to 1' gap between OP and bus. I'd be livid.

I'm just saying I think it's an unusually close pass. If OP says the bus hit him it's even worse.

Do you behave like this when interacting with the public?
Behave like what exactly? You fail to have noticed I was asking a question, not making a statement.

You'd be angry. And..?

What would you do? What would you expect to happen, and why? You're a vulnerable user in the street with a 15 tonne opponent - what would you do with that anger? How do you think any actions you might make while angry would benefit you?

At no point on this thread have I suggested that the OPs incident was a good thing. Unfortunately, you can be thermonuclear hopping raving furious, if there's no injury or damage then the bus driver does not lawfully have to stop. There's a lot of people on these hallowed pages that seem to have an anger problem, and that ain't a good thing out on the road - at best anger gets you an ulcer, at worst it gets you dead.

So I ask again. You'd be angry. And...? I'd be pretty pished about it too, but getting angry has a lot of downsides and no upside.

If I caught him, I'd give him a good shouting at, and send the video (if I had one) to his employers etc.. I wouldn't expect the latter to do any good, but I'd expect the former to give me a moderate sense of satisfaction.

As to 'behaving like that', what I meant was - instead of saying to the guy who'd just had a bus hit him as it went past that there is no lawful reason for him to stop as you're not injured, instead you might say something like 'that pass was far below the standard that should be expected of any driver, let alone a professional, and here is a course of action you might take. Unfortunately if you are not injured, etc. etc.' There's one guy who's been a dick here, and you are treating the other guy like he's the dick. That's the way I have read it (and a few other threads, too). Possibly I'm just over sensitive

I have had plenty of close passes in my time, and I learnt that when I first started cycling, what I thought was close wasnt actually. IMHO I have never been hit by a close overtake (does struck by a wind mirror count?). But I have had some that I left me wondering how they didnt hit me.
From the video and the photo still, it looks like the bus was too close. You have to remember though that a bus passing you is a lot more scary than a car passing you. If I was the OP, I would have shouted at the bus too, however if it had been a car that passed me like that, I would have just ignored it or at most, put the footage on YT (but in a compilation, not its own video).
I have had my fair share of incidents with buses, and they can be very scary.

I dont want to jump the gun here but I suspect the bus didnt hit him (because the OP would have come straight off), but that he was so close that he thought he hit him (I have had plenty of incidents like this).

What I will end with is this: dont get your hopes up with Arriva looking into the matter. They will not reply to you and they will just ignore you. No point in getting stressed over it as at the end of they day the OP isnt hurt (as far as I know).

There are plenty more experienced riders on here that can give better knowledge of close pass incidents. Just giving my opinion on the matter.

Once a passing small truck's wing mirror hit me (hard) between the shoulder blades, one of those ones out on a frame, hurt for a week odd

Once a silver car swerved suddenly into the bus lane I was coming down very fast, top of Camden Road coming down into Nag Head junction for the Laaahdeners, i swerved as much as i could as it came over and I heard my right pedal scrap down most of the left side of his car, when I got home i thought I'd imagined it, the right pedal still had grey paint on the outer face

Once I started to signal to move out pass a parked car and even my bent arm was too long to straighten due to a car at that moment pulling level being that close

No end of very close but not touching passes

A new one last Friday though, fella passed a bit close and pulled back in a bit sharp, not great, he flashed his lights to say sorry, odd
