a pigeon!

Bloody bird was in the middle of the road and flew at me as I went past.

Bounced off the chainset and as I turned to look behind I saw it fly off.

Makes you jump I can tell you

I had a deer hit me once - it was late evening and the deer had been grazing at the side of the track, which is a fairly good downhill at that point. I obviously startled the deed and it obviously misjudged my speed, because it hit me broadside on and pretty hard. I stayed up, and the deer bounded off apparently unhurt, but it was a bit surprising.

I had one fly into my spokes. They make me very nervous because they are in the road feeding in the early morning and fly all over the place when I approach.

At the top of Glentress forest there used to be (and possible still is) a male Red Grouse which used to attack and chase every mountain biker that went passed...

They are 'ard if you hit one at 70...had one bounce off the wind screen once..then one got mashed by the car air intakes some years later......wasn't fun trying to fish the body out.........

Certainly not funny on a bike.........

Haha, you must get footage of this if old red still lives!

Whoa....hold on. If it was a wood pigeon, they are the most delicious bird God gave us.

Are they really made of wood?

Haven't had a bird hit me, well not that sort anyway. The bats get close though flying alongside me in the dark, and the owls fly out of the trees when you go past which can frighten the life out of you sometimes because they're so close. I had something flying in the air hit me on the side of the helmet fairly recently one afternoon along the cycle track, it bounced off and hit me on the side of the face. I didn't see what it was but must have been big and moving fast, it must have been an oncoming cricket mid-jump or something. More recently I've had kamikaze rabbits lying in wait ready to pounce, waiting silently in the dark with their eyes glowing at me until I get close then running straight at me ;) trying to make you have an accident, then there's the badgers that wait until I get near then running straight across the track very fast when you're not expecting it. It's bloody dangerous along that cycle track ;) it's safer on the main roads amongst the lorries and buses.

I was going home down goodge st in London last month.
Speeding past the normal flock of pigeons eating vomit on the road.
Just as I'm going past one " WALKS" under my wheels!!!!!
This was out side a pub with loads of punters on the pavement.
I heard the crunch of the bird and the " oh my god did you see that" from the punters.
Couldn't really stop until the lights, cyclist pills up beside me and I look at him, he just nods and does the"slitty thoat" sign.
I felt reaaly bad about it and gave double helpings of bread to the wood pidgeons in the garden that night.
I guess 23 mm tyres at about 18mph make short work of kamakazi pidgeons
